Mega Millions Lottery for Mar 29, 2023 Overview
The prize is presented as a nominal amount of yearly payments, as is usual practice in American lotteries. When a Mega Millions jackpot winner selects the cash value option (the default), the approximate present value of the installments is paid. The previous iteration of Mega Millions debuted on October 19, 2013, with the first drawing three days later. Players must match 5 of 70 white balls and the gold-colored “MegaBall” from a second field of 25 numbers (5/70 / 1/25) in the current edition of Mega Millions.
Each game is $2. Except for California, all 47 Mega Millions jurisdictions provide a Megaplier option (plays with the Megaplier at $3 each) in which non-jackpot rewards are multiplied by 2, 3, 4, or 5. In January 2011, the Megaplier was made accessible to all Mega Millions jurisdictions; it had previously been available only in Texas. Several participants of the game provide the Just the Jackpot option, which costs $3 for two plays. On such a wager, only the jackpot may be won; none of the lower-tier rewards are accessible.
The greatest jackpot (the amount won) in Mega Millions history was $1.537 billion for the October 23, 2018 drawing, with one winning jackpot ticket sold in South Carolina. In March 2019, the winner claimed the award anonymously.
