On the 24th of this month i.e., Friday, the intranasal Covid-19 vaccination from Bharat Biotech finally made an appearance on the Cowin app. So, to get vaccinated you will need to log in through the Cowin platform and visit the hospital to get your dose. The vaccination will first be available in private hospitals. The cost of the vaccine hasn’t been disclosed yet.

Also, people who have taken both or either dose of Covishield or Covaxin or, in some cases, the sputnik v, are the only one who is eligible to get themselves vaccinated by nasal covid dose. How Does Covid Nasal Vaccine Work?

The storage of doses is between 2°C and 8°C temperature which is normal refrigerator temperature. As it doesn’t require massive cold storage infrastructure facilities it would be beneficial for economically weak countries too.

The advantage of this vaccine is that it provides very broad-spectrum immunity and also provides local immunity that exists in the nasal cavity itself, thus reducing the rate of infection in those who take it. It also slows down the transfer speed. In this sense, nasal vaccines may be more effective than other vaccines. Nasal vaccination targets immune cells residing in mucosal tissues and membranes, resulting in both systemic and mucosal immunity. The nasal Covid vaccine not only protects against Covid but also prevents the spread of the disease by promoting certain types of immunity that reside primarily in the cells lining the nose and throat.

Will the risk of corona be averted by the nasal vaccine?
After testing the vaccine, Bharat Biotech claimed that it was highly effective and helped boost immunity against coronavirus. Three trials of the nasal covid vaccine have been conducted and it has shown positive results in all three trials. 175 individuals were included in the first phase trial, and 200 individuals in the second phase trial. After this, there were two trials within the third phase. It has been used in numerous ways on 3,100 people, to begin with, and 875 in the next trial.
In one it was given as a two-dose antibody and in the other as a booster measurement. Bharat Biotech has established large manufacturing plants in many cities including Gujarat, Karnataka, Telangana, and Maharashtra and the vaccine will be given through the nose at a gap of 4 weeks.
