India’s new capital in Delhi was designed by Edwin Lutyens. Herbert Baker was responsible for designing the first Parliament Building. The foundation stone was laid on 12 February, 1921. The construction was completed in six years with a project outlay of Rs 83 lakh and the opening ceremony was performed on 18 January, 1927. The design liberally used Indian motifs and symbols in the carvings.
