India’s new capital in Delhi was designed by Edwin Lutyens. Herbert
Baker was responsible for designing the first Parliament Building. The
foundation stone was laid on 12 February, 1921. The construction was
completed in six years with a project outlay of Rs 83 lakh and the opening
ceremony was performed on 18 January, 1927. The design liberally used
Indian motifs and symbols in the carvings.
